Looking back on my childhood I can remember a time when Christmas was all about the fun. A time a really enjoyed the holiday season and all it had to offer. I never really understood the stress and chaos that came with it until I was became a Mom.
Adulthood brings with it so many responsibilities and expectations. Particularly around the holiday season. A time I use to look forward to with so much excitement and joy. After all, Christmas is suppose to be the most splendiferous and magical time of year, isn’t it?! One would think so.
So when did I let all that get away from me?
Slowly after becoming a mother I found that I often would take to much on around the holidays. It became very easy to compare myself to all the picture perfect Pinterest Moms. You know the ones with the perfect decor, wondrous baking adventures and elegantly wrapper Christmas presents. I am so not her, but felt like I needed to be otherwise I would be letting down all those around me.
I always thought my Mom had it all together during the holiday season, but now that I am older and a mother myself, I know differently. She too probably experienced the same stresses I now face around the holiday season.
This year I decided something had to give. Maybe it was the Bad Moms Christmas movie that inspired the change. BUT – my main realization this holiday season is that it is ok to say “NO!”. More importantly, it is also just as ok to put aside wrapping the Christmas presents to sneak in some me-time. We, Moms, need that break! It is so easy to back burner ourselves during the holiday season while focusing on pleasing everyone else.
Remember it is more than ok to pump the breaks for a few minutes and focus on you, especially during the holiday season. Make it a daily goal with the help of these great tips!
10 Tips for Sneaking in Me-Time During the Holiday Hustle and Bustle
Set the Alarm Early. No, no – I am not going to suggest setting the alarm early to workout. I am not a morning person by any means, so early morning workouts just don’t happen here. However, I like to aim to go to bed early each evening, so that I am able to wake around 5:45 or 6 on weekday mornings. By doing this I am able to sneak downstairs and enjoy a hot cup of coffee alone while cozied up under a cozy blanket before the hustle and bustle of the day sets in.
Dive into a Book. Nothing beats climbing into your Jill Yoga Stretch Cotton Joggers at the end of a long day of shopping and cozying up under a warm blanket with a good book.
Soak in the Tub. Whether it be the hot tub or the bath tub. Try to carve out 30 minutes for yourself a couple days a week to soak in the tub. You can use this time to binge watch some of your favourite shows on the tablet, read a book or just relish in the silence. Oh the glorious silence.
Go for a Walk. Nothing beats fresh air. Throw on some extra layers, including the your Jill Yoga Asymmetrical Zip Cotton Hoody and head outdoors. Try to aim to get at minimum 30 minutes of fresh air a day. You could even bundle up one evening, and head out to enjoy all the festive holiday lights that are blanketing houses in the neighbourhood.

Pop on some of your favourite Christmas music while you dance and sing around the kitchen to your hearts delight as you bake up a storm. Binge Christmas Movies. Just because it’s the holidays doesn’t mean you always need to be on the go. Carve out a day in your schedule to just lounge around in your joggers and watch some family-friendly holiday favourites with your little ones. Not only will it put you in the festive spirit, but nothing is better than a good snuggle.

Wrap and Binge. As soon as the kids hit the hay, stream your favourite holiday movie, pour yourself a glass of vino and wrap to your hearts delight at whatever pace you want because hey – you’re favourite Christmas movie is on.
