Spring is in the air. A time when most folks come out of hibernation, and begin to enjoy all that the great outdoors has to offer. After the cold Winter we experienced this year, it is safe to say Spring hasn’t sprung soon enough. I may be no meteorologist, but I can guarantee that the milder temperatures will come. Sooner rather than later, I hope.
With the milder temperatures also comes the great melt. A time when we
tearily say our goodbyes to snow, and offer warm hello to mud.
As parent, we know that Spring is the prime time for our kids to get dirty. Don’t let that deter you from letting the kids get outdoors to enjoy all the mother nature has to offer. You can always rest assured that when they are done at play, they can come inside and clean up in a sudsy bath with Kandoo Clean Your Body Moisturizing Body Wash. A body wash that features a bright coloured, beautifully scented foam that lets your child know he or she has covered themselves adequately with soap for a better clean.
So far this Spring, we have managed to escape to the beach for a walk along the waterfront. We’ve visited the trail on numerous occasions to feed the birds. We have also escaped the four walls to enjoy many local neighbourhood walks, and trips to the park.
Staying active as a family has always been a goal of mine. It’s a chance for me to be more present with my children and live for the moment. Not to mention… Nature is so therapeutic.
If you’re looking to stay active with your family this Spring, try these 13 activities that are sure to be a blast for not only your children, but you as well:
Head on a nature hike. Make a list of all your local nature trails and conservation areas, and plan to visit each of them. You would be amazed by all the wildlife you might get to see by chance. Bring some bird seed to feed the birds while at it.
Plan a nature scavenger hunt. Create a scavenger hunt list, visit your local nature trail or park, and watch your kids excitement come alive as they check item after item off the list.
Fly a kite.
Go for a bike ride.
Paint with mud. Yep. You heard me. Grab a tupperware container, plastic cup and a paint brush. Fill the cup with water and head outdoors. Line your deck with paper and scoop a bit of mud or soil into the tupperware container. Soak the paintbrush in water, dip in the mud and let your inner Picasso come alive.
Gardening. Nothing brings me more joy than pruning the garden and planting flowers. Let those little hands get involved on the action too. Gardening with your kids makes for a great bonding experience. You could plant flowers together or even create a miniature veggie garden. You will have a blast watching your garden flourish together as the Spring and Summer passes by.
Visit the playground and have a picnic at the park. Visiting the playground is always exciting. Shift gears, pack a lunch and enjoy a picnic at the park with your munchkins to maximize your time outdoors as a family at the playground.
Puddle Jumping. April showers bring may flowers. Let the kids put on those rain boots and a rain jacket, and take them outdoors to enjoy some puddle jumping in the rain.
Skip stones in the pond or at the lake.
Draw pictures with sidewalk chalk.
Visit the zoo or local farm.
