Being a new(ish) Mom I find that some days are easier to squeeze in a workout in comparison to others. In fact, most days I don’t sneak in the 30 minutes of physical activity that my body craves. I am not one that can just drag my butt out of bed at 5AM each morning to sneak in a workout before all the little hooligans wake. I just can’t do it. It has nothing to do with lack of motivation, but rather the fact that I am far from a morning person.

I have gotten myself in the routine of getting out of bed for the morning sometime between 6:30AM and 8AM. From there I heavily consumer coffee while nursing the wee bundle and getting my older kids some breakfast. During the first morning nap, I will try to get some work done and maybe a little house cleaning if time permits. It’s during that second nap in the afternoon that I try to squeeze in a workout. Normally I will start with a 10 minute video and if the little one still remains sleeping without being in my arms (which is always hit or miss), then I will sneak in another 10 minute video until I cap out at 30 minutes. It’s a groove that works for me, so I roll with it.

It just those days that Everly doesn’t want to be far from my side that make it harder. The baby carrier is a saving grace. There is so much you can do while wearing a baby carrier, including low impact dancing, walking, and resistance training. It works out well because the baby enjoys the movements, and your body benefits from an amazing workout circuit.

A workout video that is easy to do while wearing baby is Leslie Sanone’s Walk Away The Pounds Yoga Basics. The 40-minute Yoga Basics workout encourages new yogis to learn and practice the basics of yoga through guided instruction. The 28-minute Yoga Walk segment guides you through a gentle one-mile walking workout that finishes with a basic yoga stretch routine. I love to do the walk segment on rainy days or days when I can’t easily sneak out of the house. The walk segment paired with a 10 minute upper body workout pairs nicely, and offers a good caloric burn. Just be sure to warm up and cool down, and top up on some protein post-workout to help rebuild your muscles.
