Recently I posed a question to Domesticated Momma readers asking them to share an experience in their life that they felt made them a stronger person. Here were their responses:
“Having a kid with a life-threatening disease–cancer sucks, but our family came out the other side, stronger, more appreciative and less likely to take the little things for granted.” – Robin R
“I think that the death of my father was very hard. Everyday something reminds me of him. I try to focus on all that he taught me and then share this with my children so that part of him is part of them.” – Wendy S
“Starting my own business and learning to stick up for myself so I don’t get taken advantage of.” – Tara G
“Well I think what started me off happen when u was young. Had a stroke when I was 7. But having kids helped become a stronger person for sure.” – Michelle H
“I have had a few troublesome trials, but lately I have found that finding out who your true friends are build you up to be a stronger person. It’s good to get rid of the negative.” – Randa D
“I had a rough childhood and adolescence, but I learned a lot about survival and self-reliance.” – Olivia L
“I had a really hard childhood. Then I went through years of undiagnosed anxiety. Thankfully I am coming through it.” – Merry K
“ Living on my own and succeeding with only my own will. Knowing I could do that made it much easier to find the right person to spend my life with.” – Heather N
“Having kids have made me stronger! Once you have kids it’s not all about you anymore and you have to do 100 things at once. It’s made me a stronger and better person!” – Ladena R
As you can see each person named off a very different and very unique scenario that to them at one point made them feel like a stronger person. A situation that molded them and motivated them to continue striving. Proving that strength can be found in a variety of situations.
I have also been dealt my share of cards over the years. Cards that brought with them many highs and lows, but you know what I also walked away with from each situation… Strength. Strength of knowing I can get through or accomplish anything if I put my mind, heart and soul into it.
Quite often you will find me wearing a shirt that has “Elle Est Forte” written upon it. Elle Est Forte is depicted in Proverbs 31:25.
She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.
Elle Est Forte means She Is Strong. And you know what… I am pretty damn strong! Between dealing with miscarriage, battles with infertility, the loss of my Nana from ALS, and giving birth to not one, but three children… two of which being born in the comfort of my home. I carry a lot of strength.
However, there are some days when I just need that simple nudge. That reminder. That pick me up. Days when I am scared or nervous about the unknown of a looming event, or maybe am just in need of a little extra motivation. On those days I am often found wearing my shirt, loud and proud. It brings me much comfort and a semblance of strength in my times of need. Like this past Saturday, for instance, when I was at the dentist having my wisdom teeth extracted.
This shirt is quite possibly one of my favourite shirts in my entire wardrobe. If I could wear it daily I would. I am totally in love with the SHE IS Clothing line that Kimberly Gladman has created. Not only because I am a Christian girl at heart, but because I think the product encapsulates an amazing message.
