I was first introduced to the wonderful world of babywearing in November of 2009. Just a few months after the birth of my daughter.
I won’t make mention of what baby carrier I owned at the time, but I can tell you that I wasn’t fond of it. It didn’t provide the support that I felt it should. I continually found myself with back aches. The weight distribution was lacking.
I didn’t let my experience hamper my love for babywearing. Truth be told, I went into purchasing my first baby carrier without doing any research.
In February of 2011, my second born entered the picture. At this point I had made the transition to a different carrier. As well as a wrap. The amount of use that my carriers saw was unreal! My little guy suffered from a severe case of GERD and colic for the first 9 months of his life. This meant that he spent a lot of time in my arms being rocked or gently bounced. The baby carrier at the time was my saving grace. It left me with the freedom to cook dinner, clean up around the house and chase after my toddler. Cameron was quite content because he was still able to be close to me, enjoying the cuddles, warmth and the ability to breastfeed on demand. Who am I kidding?!? I loved all those additional cuddles too, and not being constricted to the couch.
Being that my new bundle is due in just a few months, I have been on the hunt for a new carrier. This was how I came to find the Boba 4G.
Boba is a Soft Structured Carrier (SSC) that is intended for babies and children between 7-45lbs.
The Boba 4G comes in a compact box, which includes:
- the Boba carrier,
- foot straps,
- integrated infant insert,
- instruction manual, and,
- safety instructions and benefits brochures!
Being just shy of 7 months pregnant, I haven’t had the opportunity to give the Boba 4G a run for it’s money. As much as I would love to, I just don’t feel at this stage in my pregnancy that I would adequately be able to try on the Boba 4G and supply a decent review. For this reason, I have had my husband test out the Boba 4G with my 2.5 year old son.
Babywearing is nothing new to my husband. He was known to rock the baby carrier quite often when my son was an infant.
My son is now over the maximum weight for the front carry (30lbs max), so we opted to review the Boba 4G using the back carry position. My son found being in the carrier hilarious. He hasn’t been toted around in one for several months now.
The first thing my husband made mention of was that the weight distribution was even. He didn’t feel like he was being weighed down by our son.
The Boba 4G is very easy to put on. We found that my husband needed some assistance getting my son into position, but with practice I’m sure it could be achieved by the user of the carrier.
The Boba 4G is the perfect baby carrier that is designed to grow with your child. Whether your child is in the infancy stage or entering toddlerhood. There is a carrying position designed to comfortably suit everyone (newborn, front or back)!
Boba offers several innovative features:
The foot straps attached to the waist belt keep older children comfortable while enabling a healthy sitting position. The footstraps not only give tired little legs a rest, but support the legs in a flexed abducted (froglike) position which naturally tilts the pelvis, fills out the hip sockets and aligns the spine.
It also features an integrated infant insert, which makes this carrier perfect because it grows with your child providing the comfort the baby/toddler and babywearer deserve. The integrated infant insert, adjusts to the size, age and weight of your baby. You have the ease of making the seat smaller or wider, as well as lifting your infant up within the carrier. When your child is in the carrier you should easily be able to kiss the top of their head. If you can’t you need to adjust their positioning. To learn more about the integrated infant insert I encourage you to check out the following video:
As someone who has always enjoyed breastfeeding her children, but has also struggled with breastfeeding in public. I have to say I immediately fell in love with the hood feature that comes with the Boba 4G. When breastfeeding, you simply find the perfect position that creates comfort and ease for you and your child. You can do this by easily adjusting the side straps until you reach the perfect position, and securing the hood to the shoulder straps to create more discretion.
My personal favourite feature is the shoulder strap holder. Babywearing and carrying your baby has never been so seamless. You simply affix your bag on your shoulder, and snap the straps into place. You will never have to worry about your purse staying in place while out and about, and running around.
Babywearing has many benefits:
- It creates confident parents.
- It’s convenient.
- It allows you to safely move about with your baby regardless of terrain.
- It’s healthy for you. Looking for a good workout? Get out for a walk with your little one nestled comfortable against you.
- It makes it possible to discreetly nurse.
- It helps you interact and bond with your child.
I cannot wait for my little one to join our family in early March 2014, so that I can make good use of my Boba 4G.
