Transition has never been something that has come easy for my son. Whether it was transitioning from breast to bottle, bottle to sippy cup, or crib to toddler bed… These are all processes that have taken great amount of patience, time, failure, and re-attempts. My son is all for making you wait. At least I like to think so. However when I ran out of breast milk when he was 10 months old transitioning from breast to bottle was not something that could stand the test of time. He was certainly resistant to the quick transition, but his hunger won and the bottle it was.

My son is now just shy of 2.5 years old. I’ll be the first to admit that he still takes the bottle occasionally. He looks at it as a form of comfort. We have tried numerous times to eliminate the bottle, which has just resulted in endless battles, hours of tears and temper tantrums. There is only so much of that a parent can handle. Call me a sucker, if you will, but my sanity needs to stay in check too.

While my son may be a fairly easy going kid most of the time. My daughter was definitely much easier to transition. At 12 months of age, we took away her soother. No complaints on her part. At 14 months, we dropped the bottle cold turkey. No protesting or complaints on her part. It truly is amazing how different each child can be personality wise.

I was so thankful when the opportunity arose to review the Essential Sippy Cup by

The Essential Sippy Cup was recently awarded the PTPA Seal of Approval, and as I tested the product it became apparent why this product has been parent tested and parent approved!

“The Essential Sippy Cup is the ultimate sippy cup with an innovative weighted straw that let’s kids drink to the very last drop. It moves in the liquid whatever angle the cup is held in. The Essential Sippy Cup also features easy grip handles to encourage greater independence and an easy to use flip top lid. It is leak proof, so kids can drink lying down making it the ideal transition from the bottle. The Essential Sippy Cup is BPA, Phthalates and PVC free, dishwasher safe and has a cleaning brush and replacement straw pack available separately. The only sippy cup you need. In a choice of 4 delicious colours.”

Essential Sippy Cup straw and brush blueWhen I first introduced my son to the Essential Sippy Cup he was resistant. He thought it was just like any ordinary ol’ sippy cup. You know the ones where you have to sit-up straight to drink it, and even then there is still no guarantee that you can drink to the very last drop. Once I finally convinced him that he could lie down and enjoy a cup of warm milk, he was very quick to see I wasn’t fibbing with him. He was truly amazed. Realizing quickly that transitioning to a sippy cup really may not be that bad at all.

The weighted straw in the Essential Sippy Cup makes it very easy for my son to enjoy his milk to the very last drop. Whether he is sitting up, lying down or relaxing on an incline he never has an issue. What I love is how easy it is to clean the sippy cup. The cup is dishwasher safe, and the straw is easy to clean with the use of the miniature straw.

My only qualm would be that I have experienced occasionally leakage from the cup. The leaks always seem to come from where the lid seals with the cup, so it could very well be that I’m just not sealing the lid properly from time to time. The leaks certainly are few and far between, so not really of major concern to me.

A review just wouldn’t be complete without an awesome giveaway for the readers!

I like the essential mesh feeder. We have one & it’s great for putting fruit chunks in when a baby doesn’t have enough teeth to chew yet. It really cuts down on the worry of choking.
