With the arrival of the gorgeous Spring weather and summer days looming, I’m really beginning to get the itch to relax in a luxurious backyard. For the past 9 months, I have lived in a new build surrounded by piles of mud, dust and dirt. Sounds like such a serene atmosphere, doesn’t it?! Well it is if you enjoy the sound of forklifts and excavators driving back and forth for 9 hours each day. I can’t complain though. Before I know it my subdivision will be just that a subdivision… with grass, sidewalks, clean streets and construction vehicles nowhere in sight. At that point I think I may begin to have withdrawals of not being able to exercise my eyes on the good looking construction workers. Trust me – there is many of them!

Until that day, I continue to have visions of a gorgeous backyard design dancing in my head.

This summer we should finally be graded, which means we will soon get sod. Hooray for grass! Something I never thought I would be excited about. Grass seems like a luxury at this point. Once we have grass, I can fence off my backyard and begin to plan out it’s landscape.

My husband and I have always been outdoorsy people. We don’t live far from cottage country, and we live far enough from the city that we never really feel compelled to travel during the summer months. We simply like to enjoy the pleasures of being able to relax in our yard, and around the house. Hence why designing the backyard landscape is so important to me. We plan to spend a good chunk of our time unwinding on our comfortable garden furniture by the fire pit. It would be an absolute dream if we managed to get a pool, and hot tub too!! There are some pretty neat pool designs that I have come across recently that actually have the hot tub in the middle of the pool with a swim-up bar. I really like concepts like that!

Let’s stop daydreaming for a moment, shall we!? Let’s be real. The one thing I seriously miss about not having a backyard is my barbecue. Barbecuing seems to feel like a thing of the past. Being that we haven’t been graded yet we can’t hook up our barbecue to the gas line. Cooking in the kitchen is beginning to get a tad boring, especially with the gorgeous weather now here!! All in time, I guess.

I foresee a backyard warming party happening when I finally do have a backyard! Who’s with me on that one?! It’s an occasion that will deserve a celebration all on it’s own! Haha!

So tell me… where’s your favourite way or place to enjoy the outdoors during the Spring & Summer?

What an exciting time for you when you finally can shop for outdoor furniture and a big ol’ bbq! I envy you that you get to do all of this. I think it will feel wonderful to wiggle your toes in your fresh new grass! Since I don’t have a backyard, my husband and I do a lot of outdoorsy things. The most enjoyable is bike riding. We go every day we can to the trails near the water and just ride around on our bikes. We also do some hiking too. When we feel like have BBQ, we just visit friends, the ones that just moved to a new subdivision and are getting new grass and a new bbq…oops, did I just invite myself to your house!! Great post Nicole, I love that backyard picture.

My dad has the best backyard! Its quiet, it always has a breeze, its surrounded by trees and birds are always singing! There are roses, lavender, tulips, daffodils and more. I love it there!

Ideally, I would love a nice and big backyard that is away from the city! I would be content with a nice lawn and a big patio!

You must be so excited to finally start designing your backyard layout!! I honestly love backyard BBQs in the summer, or going up to a cottage.
