I was recently selected as a Toshiba Brand Ambassador for their Holiday Heroes campaign. ShesConnected has partnered with Toshiba Canada to help spread the word about their Toshiba Thrive and 3D Televisions.

I was ecstatic when I received the news that I had been chosen as a Toshiba brand ambassador. I’m a long time supporter of Toshiba. I own one of their flat screen TVs, as well as two Toshiba Thrive tablets. Yep you read that right. Two. My husband received one for his birthday in September. Guess who always was using it? Me! After the ShesConnected Conference my husband insisted I treat myself to my own tablet. I’m convinced he just wanted to keep his Thrive all to himself. I don’t blame him. Ha.

When I initially started this mission I had all intentions of reviewing and reporting on the 3D television. I visited Best Buy and Future Shop. Neither store had the television in store. I was kind of bummed about this. I had really wanted to learn more about it. I wound up reviewing the tablet. I already knew quite a fair deal about the Thrive being that I own two. I drilled the store clerks on product knowledge. The Future Shop clerk wasn’t much help and heckled me for snapping photos of their merchandise. Best Buy was much more accommodating. They also sold all of the many accessories for the Thrive.

Without further ado… Here is the beauty…
The Toshiba Thrive Tablet

Features that impressed me about the Toshiba Thrive:

  • The Thrive is sold as an 8GB, 16GB or 32GB; all of which come with WiFi.
  • Full size ports. It’s a tablet that acts like a netbook.
  • It offers a full size USB. It’s compatible with USB flash drives, keyboards and other input devices.
  • It offers a full size SD card port. You’ll easily be able to expand the storage on your tablet for a lower cost. This would save you from purchasing a micro SD which the other competitors use. Another perk of the full size SD port is that you’d be able to take your SD card straight out of your digital camera and load up the images straight on your Toshiba Thrive.
  • It offers a full size HDMI.
  • The Thrive has resolution+ technology, which helps clean up upscaled videos.
  • The price points are beyond reasonable for this product. Definitely sets Toshiba apart from competitors. You essentially get more bang for your buck.
  • The Thrive has an interchangeable easy grip back, so you can add a personal touch to your Thrive. The backs are offered in 5 different colours.
  • The Thrive has an interchangeable battery. Over time batteries lose their efficiency, so the option is always there to replace the battery.
If you were to ask me in the summer if I would ever think of purchasing a tablet… I would have told you NO! Touch screen devices scared me. I didn’t like the idea of using a touch screen keypad. I figured it would make me less productive and result in a lot of fumbling / misspellings. When I first tried out my husband’s Thrive, I found that the onscreen keyboard was large enough to type with ease. The buttons are similar size to a physical keyboards buttons. My opinion of touch screens had been swayed.
I absolutely love my Toshiba Thrive. I’m a busy Mom with 2 young children. It’s not always easy or convenient for me to get on the computer over the day. The Thrive comes in very handy during my times of need. Lets say I need to look up the words to a children’s finger play, blog / document something, or even look up a recipe… I’m able to quickly do so with no hassle at all.
My daughter thinks the Thrive is the awesome. There are many learning and development apps that I can download just for her. Who am I kidding though?! I don’t let her touch my tablet. However, sometimes if I just need a moment of peace and quiet, I will download a YouTube video in a matter of seconds for the children to watch. Huge sanity saver.

I tell all my friends and family about my love for the Thrive. It goes with me everywhere. The Thrive has found love in our household.

Love all the pictures and information you included in your post, but most of all that your girls are loving it. I’m considering one for a big fat Christmas gift in this house. It really does look fabulous!
