It was 8 years ago that I got pregnant with my first. I can remember going into that pregnancy with very little knowledge of how to prepare for the pregnancy. I participated in some online forums, but took away very little information. Most of the points made were of sheer opinion, not facts.
After the birth of my first, I suffered from a late miscarriage before getting pregnant with my second. It was during this pregnancy that I put on a lot of weight. I suffered from morning sickness, and wasn’t really sure how to cope with it. Sure I had been prescribed Diclectin and I took vitamin B6 religiously, but nothing seemed to help. I struggled to keep food down and the only foods I could keep down were Poutine and chocolate.
I will never forget the day sitting in the midwives office after she took my weight, and she quickly hide the chart from me. I asked her what was up, and I was shocked when she informed me I had gained 10 pounds within the span of 2 weeks. All from my unhealthy eating habits during this pregnancy. She assured me that it was normal, and to eat what could stomach – which was barely anything… well other than junk.
After the birth of my second baby, I suffered from postpartum anxiety. I absolutely hate how I looked. Life was very hard. I had a baby who suffered from severe GERD and for the first nine months of his life I was lucky if I got 3 hours of broken sleep each night.
In the winter of 2011, I decided I needed to make a change. I heard so many other Mom’s talk about doing Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred and barely making it 3 days in without giving up, so I decided to give it a try. Simply for the fact that I love being challenged. I was determined not to give up and be defeated.
Between January of 2012 and December 2012, I bought I had bought a countless number of Jillian Michaels workout DVDs. Heck – just looking at my DVD cabinet right now – you would say I have a Jillian Michaels library!
You see it was during that time I discovered I had a love-hate relationship with Jillian Michaels. I hated her bootcamp style, but I loved how she challenged me, talked me up and kept me going and striving to be the best that I could be. In that year, I lost 60 pounds! I could hardly believe it.
I continued with her workouts, as I began trying to conceive my third child. Conceiving my third child I ran into an encounter with secondary infertility. It was a tough period in time, but we found our inner power and pushed through.
It was in the Summer of 2013 that I swallowed a watermelon seed and found myself to be growing a healthy baby girl. During this time, I also sought out many prenatal DVDs. Why must prenatal workouts be so hard to come by? The one wish I had was that Jillian would create some sort DVD for pregnancy or post-baby. I was very active during my third pregnancy, working out 5 to 6 times a week. I maintained the same kind of workout routine during my pregnancy with my fourth.
It was shortly after Oakley’s birth in March 2016 that Jillian Michaels released her Hot Body, Healthy Mommy DVD and you would have thought I struck gold. I have this DVD to thank for getting me back into the best shape of my life after having my fourth child.
I recently had to use the pick-up service at a local grocery store when one of my children were sick, and open the service clerk bringing my groceries out to my car he struck up small talk with me. When he learned I had four kids, his response was… “No!!! Really?!?! How can you have four kids and look like that?!” I said, “It’s easy! I chase after my kids all day, and I find time each day to either fit in a run, Fitness Marshall, Tone It Up or Jillian Michaels workout.” He couldn’t believe it, and you know what – I never had felt more amazing than I did that moment!
Now here I am 10 months postpartum, and I just finished reading a copy of the book Yeah BABY! A book that Jillian Michaels released in November of 2016. This book is essentially the Modern Mama’s guide to mastering all thing pregnancy, growing a healthy baby and bouncing back better than ever post-baby! Seriously – I wish this book had been around before I got pregnant with my first in November of 2008. It is amazing.
You may be thinking why would Jillian release a book if she has never been pregnant… Well, her partner, Heidi once was and Jillian was there to live through Heidi’s experience which in this book she recalls many insightful and some comical tales of Heidi’s pregnancy. Not only that she shares her wealth of knowledge while also teaming up with a team of top-notch experts who will change everything you think you know about pregnancy, arming you with the most cutting-edge information available, so you can make the right choices for you and your little one.
Like did you know that if you suffer from morning sickness that eating greasy foods could actually prolong your suffering? Remember how I told you I suffered from terrible all day sickness during my pregnancy with my second and lived for poutine… Yea it would have been excellent to know at the time that the poutine could have been the culprit making my suffering worse. This book shares nutrient-rich food options that will help give you energy and stave off the nausea.
Not only that we all know that to grow a healthy baby we need to ensure we are getting a good amount of certain vitamins and minerals. Rather than popping pills all day, this book supplies you with ideas of what foods to turn to get that boost of Omegas or Iron per say.
So if you are pregnant, thinking of getting pregnant or looking for that perfect baby shower gift, I totally recommend picking up a copy of Yeah BABY! This book teaches you how you can prepare your body for pregnancy. I may now be past my baby making days, but this book to me has been a wealth of knowledge and I still like to turn to it for information with regards to breastfeeding and easy, healthy meal ideas. As a busy Mom, I struggle with finding time to feed myself and this book has provided me with insightful information on how many calories I should be consuming each day while breastfeeding. JIllian Michaels really takes the guess work out of it with her nutrition-packed recipes that she has included in Yeah BABY! If you should ever pick up a copy, I suggest trying the recipes for Super Mommy Mix, Chicken Burrito Bowl, Bad Ass Breakfast Burrito, Hot Mama Smoothie and Maple Pecan Porridge. You won’t regret it!

If I could suggest one book that every woman pick-up whether pre-pregnancy or during, it would be this book by Jillian. It is fun. It is witty. It is honest and chuck full of great information that will help you be the best you can be before, during and after pregnancy!
If there is one thing that Jillian has drilled into to my head over the many years that I have worked out with her it is that there is only one you in life, so take chances, give it your all and take time for yourself because there is only one you and no one else can replace that!
Quite honestly – if I could give that woman a huge hug in person and thank her for how much she has transformed my life over the years I would!
