With the Summer now in full swing and 4 kids at home with me 24/7, I often find that my daily struggle lies within the morning.
I wake up at 6AM everyday. My husband wakes me as he leaves for work. I have insisted that he do this. It gives me time to enjoy coffee in silence, usually while nursing my youngest. However, at least the rest of the house is still enjoying a blissful slumber. That’s what matters.
The morning quite often is my struggle in the Summer months. I shift my focus so much on taking care of the kids that I struggle with taking care of myself. Eating small, frequent meals often gets put on the back burner, As does my daily exercise routine, It is a shame really, but I am trying to work on it.
So how am I trying to stay on top of my a-game this Summer?
Each morning, I start my day with a hot lemon water. I drink this before consuming my morning coffee.
After my lemon water, I drink a green juice.
The Glowing Green Juice contains:
- 2 cups water
- 1-2 cups spinach
- 1 head romaine
- juice of 1/2 a lemon
- 1 field cucumber
- 3 to 4 sticks of celery
- 1 banana
- 1 pear
- 1 apple
Run it all through a high-powered blender, pour into a glass topped with 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of chia seeds and enjoy!
After drinking my lemon water and green juice, I will then enjoy my morning coffee. Sometimes I will have a coconut oil coffee with a scoop of ND Shake.
My breakfast is usually a bowl of oatmeal with a hard-boiled egg, avocado toast or Egg & Quinoa Muffins with an ND Shake.
I find it so important to start my day off with a high-fiber, high-protein meal. It is what gives me the energy to push through. Not only that I am currently exclusively breastfeeding, so maintaining a diet that will boost my energy is crucial.
Mid-morning, I will usually try to fit in 30 minutes of physical activity. Right now I am dealing with knee issues and shin splints, so I am having to rest, but if it weren’t for that I would be exercising daily. Whether it be heading out for a 30 minute walk or squeezing in a 15 minute high-intensity interval workout. I just love being active. It gets the endorphins going which helps relieve stress and improves my overall mood. Plus, I really look forward to finishing off each workout with a MagPop! It’s a refreshingly fun and fizzy way to rehydrate post-workout!
Having this strong morning routine has really helped me get through the Summer at my best. It has helped me curb cravings and given me the energy needed to keep up with my little ones. After all, isn’t that what is important in the end?! Staying on top of your health and being able to remain present with family and friends. Goodbye fatigue, hello fun times in the sunshine with the littles!
