There have been many things I have had to learn to accept upon becoming a Mother. Like accepting that the house will get messy. There is no if’s, and’s or but’s about it. The reality is that if you have kids your house will get messy.

shutterstock_254980213

Keeping a house clean with kids around is almost like trying to brush your teeth after eating Oreo’s. Impossible. You just need to learn to roll with it.

OR…

In my case you learn to accept Swiffer as your new best friend.

You will find me using my Swiffer Sweeper and WetJet almost daily. Whether it be to quickly clean up the floors before a play date or to clean up the dirty foot prints traipsed in from the outdoors, these products are what contribute to my house remaining somewhat tidy. Even if only for a few minutes.

Did you know that 75% of millennials think that letting kids make messes encourages their creativity? This is in comparison to the 62% of Boomer parents.

Allowing kids to make messes can be a great learning opportunity, in so many ways. Nearly all parents (97%) agree that young children learn a lot from cleaning up a mess.

shutterstock_154303568

So if you are like I once was, terrified of accepting the mess. Don’t be! Just say yes to the mess because the reality is that those messy activities, like making cloud dough or finger painting can be tidied easily and well, your children love them!  What could be better than sipping coffee while accepting life’s little messes while your child embraces a life rich in creativity? Absolutely nothing!

The worst mess ever that took forever to clean up was when my 15 mth old son (this is nearly 40 yrs ago so I have forgiven him!) managed to get the Penaten cream, (very thick diaper cream) from the changing table and then proceeded to smear it all over the long haired carpet, up and down the walls and of course all over himself too. Disastrous stuff to try and clean off.

And the winner is…. The biggest and by far the hardest to clean, in my opinion has to be those “Soap” crayons that stain the tub surround and any bath linens within the child’s reach during bathtime as well as trying to get bubble gum out of their hair after they’ve fallen asleep with a mouthful of it and lastly all the wonderful carpet stains that resulted from melted homemade “Koolaid/Jello” Popsicles that they promised to eat outside. Oh that reminds me, better put soap crayons, and more Koolaid and Jello on my shopping list for my upcoming visit with my grandsons (at their house). Lol.
