Something I quite looked forward to during my pregnancy was my daily workouts. My daily workouts were a time for me to relax, distress and enjoy being in the moment with my little one in utero. It also helped me manage my sciatic nerve pain and discomforts caused by my uterine fibroid.
Call me crazy, but one of the things I have really looked forward to since giving birth to the little man 7 weeks ago has been working out again.
I have yet to get approval from my physician to begin postnatal workouts, but I can tell you once I do that I will be popping my Jillian Michaels Hot Body, Healthy Mommy DVD in the DVD player and getting my sweat on.
My husband actually laughs at me because I have even gone as far as watching the DVD to prepare myself mentally for the workouts that are ahead of me.
When I get the clearance to begin working out, I plan to ease into it. I have no intention of setting goals. My aim is start of by working out for 30 minutes 3 times a week, and slowly working my way back up from there. My body is currently recuperating after giving birth and the last thing I want to do is place too much stress upon it right now. Doing that could cause injury, but not only that it could cause the postpartum bleeding to return. Slow and steady is the name of the game when beginning to workout postpartum. My body has been through enough bringing a child into the world, it deserves all the time it needs to bounce back. Well, at the very least 9 months.
What I love about the Jillian Michaels Hot Body, Healthy Mommy DVD is that she has worked with pregnancy fitness expert, Andrea Orbeck to create a DVD that is suitable for New Mom’s. A workout program that has modifications for Mom’s recovering from c-sections and diastasis recti. This workout program features three sections that focus on rebuilding strength and toning various parts of the body, including: upper body, lower body and core strengthening. The workouts themselves are only 20 minutes, but you also want to factor in that there is a 3 minute warm-up and cool-down.
I can already tell you from watching the program that the upper body and core strengthening days will be some of my favourites. I have never been one to enjoy lower body workouts, but hey – I will persevere and get through it.
This DVD program is great for new Mom’s that are juggling a hectic schedule, like me. I have already told my husband that he is to give me that push to go workout when he gets home from work in the evening because the reality is that I can escape for 30 minutes a couple evenings a week. He is capable of handling the baby, and the baby is capable of being away from me for that short period of a time. A time that I can just enjoy focusing on me. No one else, but me.
If you are a New Mom looking for an awesome postnatal workout DVD to check out, try out Jillian Michaels Hot Body, Healthy Mommy. I have been saying she should make a DVD for New Mom’s for years, and the fact that she finally has… Well, I am ecstatic!
