Did you know that Canadian women no longer feel defined by their chronological age? In fact, 90 per cent believe that age will continue to become less relevant.
Last month, Olay unveiled their Ageless program – an initiative that explores how Canadian women and their counterparts around the globe think about aging and expectations when it comes to beauty.
Now that my 32nd birthday is upon me, and I have young children of me own I am finding that there are a lot more age “giveaways” as the time goes on. And, I am completely ok with that.
In fact, I think it is crazy that when I was 8 my past-time was sitting in my room sniffing my Mr. Scent markers and colouring or playing outside with my Skip-It. Nowadays, children at the age of 8 often have their nose buried into an electronic whilst you have to fight them to head outdoors.
I grew up in a time when doing the Macarena was considered cool, as was the running man. In fact, on my wedding day I may have took to the halls of the hotel while I was getting ready for my big day just to put on a performance showing off my running man skills. I blame this on being high off of hairspray fumes. Either way, it is a memory that I look back on and smile.
Nowadays, I look back and wish for the days to return when it was okay to wear your flannel pajama pants anywhere and everywhere. I truly took that style for granted when I was younger.
Heck, my eldest thinks I am so old that school didn’t exist back in my day. I kid you not! Last week my son was telling me how he was learning about combining colours, and when I told him his answer was correct, my daughter immediately piped in and said, “Uh… Mom… I hate to tell you your answer is probably wrong. School didn’t exist when you were little, so how would you know the correct answer?” Yea… When did 6 become the new 16?!? Holy!
So while I may now be living at a time in my life where I feel like there are so many age giveaways popping up here and there, I am not bothered at all by it. In fact, it is those very moments that make me smile. I still look and feel young, just much wiser. That’s all that has changed. This is why all those age giveaways are simply ageless, in my opinion.
