Something I have struggled with since the birth of Everly in March 2014 is regaining a solid fitness routine. If you know me, you know how much I love and crave my time to exercise. For me exercising isn’t about losing weight. In fact that is the last thing on my mind. Rather I love how working out makes me feel on the inside and out. There is no better feeling than looking in the mirror after a good workout session seeing that sweat glistening atop of my glowing skin. Let’s not forget about that amazing endorphin high either. Exercising is my happy drug. There is no better way to put it. It never fails to relieve my stress and always leaves me feeling happier than ever.
Prior to the birth of Everly, I had it all planned out in my head how I would squeeze in my postpartum workouts once I got the a-okay at my 6 week check-up. Little had I anticipated that my body would take a lot longer to heal than normal, and that Everly would only ever willing nap in my arms. I found myself sitting on the couch pinned under the nursing pillow for what felt like ever. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the snuggles, but sometimes I just wanted to catch a break.
Shortly before Everly’s first birthday, I transitioned Everly to nap in her cribs. While she may not nap in her crib for very long. At least I know I have at minimum 20 minutes of me time. A time I can use to just veg and relax, clean, respond to emails or exercise.
20 minutes may not seem like a whole lot of time to workout, but you have to roll with the punches and take what you can get.
