The moment I notice my little one begin to yawn and rub her eyes, it is a cue to me that she is ready for a nap. As soon as she signals those cues, I push the coffee table off to the side of the family room, unroll my beautiful Forever Pink Yoga mat, and fill up my Gaiam Diamond Mine Fandango Water Bottle. All of this with high hopes that my 7-month old will let me transfer her to the play yard after she has nursed herself to sleep. This can be hit and miss most days. I just like to be well-prepared for the days when nap time is in my favour.
During my pregnancy with Everly, I quite enjoyed yoga. However since her birth I have found it very hard to get back into it. I have tried numerous DVDs, including Chrissy Carter’s Yoga for Belly, Butt and Thighs. Nothing seems to be a good fit for me. Perhaps it is because I haven’t regained and rebuilt my abdominal strength postpartum. I just know it is important to listen to my body at this stage in my fitness journey, and not to over exert myself.
I plan to revisit this exercise program in a couple of months, as it certainly seems like a good one. It’s a yoga workout series that involves Chrissy Carter guiding you through three 20-minute practices designed to burn fat and sculpt the trouble zones. The bonus “Complete Core” workout targets the abdominals and the lower back, enhancing flexibility and improving your balance.
Easily I could have continued sticking to my postpartum DVDs. Ones that I don’t find have offered me a challenge, but I decided to step out of my comfort zone a little.

If I have learned anything through this journey, it is to be present and give it my all, but not to be hard on myself for struggling along the way. It takes time, and you know what with the short few weeks I have spent on this program… I can tell you I have noticed changes. Maybe not on the scale, but I can tell you I am rocking a fine pair of skinny jeans that seem looser than they once were. Sure there are days that I can be quite down on myself, but I try not to dwell on that. Rather this journey is about persistence, giving it my all and knowing that in time the changes will come.
It is all in the baby steps, right!?! After all it took me 9 months to cook my baby… it is going to take sometime to get back into shape post-baby.
