Recently I had the opportunity to try out Multi-Grain Cheerios + Ancient Grains – a classic cereal with the added natural goodness of lightly puffed and toasted kamut, spelt and corn, and is sweetened with just a hint of cinnamon and spice.

IMG_20140626_085133

Ancient grains are delicious in taste, and play a beneficial role in maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Ancient grains offer a higher amount of nutrients and protein, and are richer in mineral content than other grains. Two of the more popular ancient grains, include: spelt and kamut.

Spelt is a tasty whole grain with a nutty flavour. Spelt contains a wider variety of nutrients than wheat, including more protein, folate, magnesium and selenium. Spelt is also a high source of fibre.

Kamut is known to have a natural sweetness, and is an excellent alternative to traditional wheat. The protein content in Kamut  is significantly higher. It also has a high amount of selenium, giving this grain strong antioxidant properties, which helps to protect the immune system.

Both of these healthy and delicious ancient grains can be found in Multi-Grain Cheerios + Ancient Grains.

I don’t know much about ancient grains, but I would like to. I like to add ground flax to my yogurt to add omega to my diet.

We love grains of all sorts. They add texture and flavours that are unique. I often add to cereal and use as a base for salads.
