It’s time to sit down and be honest with you. Yep. That’s right. You, right there, I have cards I need to lay on the table. It’s time to set things straight once and for all.
I’m on a mission…
Mission, you say?!?
Yes – a mission! A mission to commit to fit.
How is it going?
Some days are better than others, but I have to learn to come to terms with the fact that it is all about creating better habits for myself, stop making excuses, but at the same time stop being so hard on myself.
You see I am now 12 weeks postpartum. There is nothing I would love more than to get back in shape while also being more accountable with my eating habits. After all – abs are created in the kitchen.
I don’t have any goals to lose weight. I just want to feel more energetic. I want to feel strong. I want to feel relaxed, and what better drug to resolve that need than endorphins from an awesome postpartum workout. I also want to eat healthier.
How am I going about achieving my goals?
Easy. Well… I shouldn’t say it’s easy, but rather I’m taking my pledge to commit to fit by the reigns, and pulling through with a lot of perseverance.
I have come to realize that on the nights where cooking dinner isn’t in my favour. AND – let’s face it – is all too often as of late. That I don’t have to pick-up greasy, fast food (poutine anyone?). I can swap out the calorie infested dinner that will go straight to my hips for one that is more plentiful and healthy. Something like a salad or sub from Subway® Canada Restaurants. Let’s just say our local Subway® Restaurant may even know my husband by name. Yes – we visit weekly… If not twice weekly.
I am also learning to not be so hard on myself if I can’t find time to sneak in that 30 minute workout 3 to 5 times a week. Life with a 2.5 month old can be chaotic at the best of times. Rather than trapping myself on the couch when my little one wants nothing more than to be in Momma’s arms, I am breaking out the baby carrier. A fabulous way to sneak in a low impact strength workout. Yes, wearing a baby does too burn calories. While also still being able to snuggle my wee bundle with my hands and arms free. It’s a win-win.
With the gorgeous Spring weather in full force (Gosh, I thought Spring would never arrive), my family and I have made a point to abandon ship on our post-dinner snuggles with the littles while planted in front of the TV. We are doing this by getting outdoors and enjoying the weather through evening walks. We are so fortunate to live in a region with many conversations and trails close by. We have no reason not to be exploring the great outdoors.
As you can tell getting back into shape requires me to swap out a lot for a little, but you get what you bargain for. To achieve results you need to commit to fit. With that pledge comes changes and RESULTS! All in time. I am just coming to that realization, and I’ll tell you it makes the pledge seem all that more worthwhile
