You know you are a fitness junkie when one of the frequent thoughts that you ponder is how you will stay on top of your fitness regime following your postpartum recovery.
While I am no Super Mom of any sort I look forward to the day that I can jump back on the bandwagon, lift some weights and break a good sweat. For the time being I flock to resting on the couch, enjoying newborn snuggles and sneaking in the occasional walk when the weather allows. “Sprinter” sure seems to have given us a run for the money this year. Gladly I can say that I feel Winter is finally on it’s way out and Spring is here to stay. Woo hoo! I regress…
With the warmer temperatures, I have found myself getting outdoors a little more. Walking to the parks, bus stops or just around the neigbourhood. Being only 4 weeks postpartum there really isn’t much else that I can be doing that wouldn’t be too strenuous of an activity. My body surely has let me know that I need to slow down over the past weeks. Postpartum bleeding can be a good indicator of that. So until my 6 week postpartum appointment, I am not even going to considering doing much else than the above-mentioned. It is important to receive the a-OK from your family practitioner before jumping into any exercise routine, especially after giving birth to a child.
While it is quite tempting to dive back into those strenuous fitness programs that can be oh-so-challenging, my plan is to approach my new fitness routine with ease. Working out moderately 2 to 3 times a week for the first few weeks and working my way upwards from there. There will be no Jillian Michaels for me for the first little while, as much as I would love to say that there would be. It just wouldn’t be realistic.
Heck – I have Jillian Michaels One Week Shred DVD sitting in it’s clear plastic wrapper screaming my name. The One Week Shred pushes you through two 30-minute workouts each day. A strength workout in the morning followed by a cardio workout in the evening. With the comprehensive exercise plan this DVD ensures that you are well on track t receive optimal fitness results in a short period of time.
Another DVD that I cannot wait to try out is Calorie Killer Yoga with Colleen Saidman.
