Each morning after I drop my daughter off at school, my son and I head home. Sometimes the jaunt home involves a pit stop at a local coffee shop for some much needed java. Once we settle in at home, my son will sweetly ask me to watch an episode of Caillou for the billionth time. I will thank the lord that I am not Caillou’s Mom, and casually try to draw my son’s interest to something else. Generally I lose that battle and Caillou ends up on the tube.

No biggie – that 20 minutes of air time brings with it silence. Golden silence. A time for me to sit down and enjoy my coffee, surf Twitter, respond to emails… Or as of late – it is a time for me to vacuum and wash the main floors without fearing that little footprints will soon be traipsing themselves all over them, as my son tugs at my pant leg eager for my attention.

A lot has certainly changed over the past 5 years. I have gained much wisdom, a lot more responsibility, lost a lot of sleep, and drank vats of coffee (and wine… but mostly coffee) . I have also learned the in’s and out’s of unconditional love. There are many days that go by that I feel like a parenting failure, that I’m extremely exhausted and just at my wits end… All it takes is a little smile and hug from my munchkins and those feelings vanish! The sparkle they have in their eyes as they look at my husband and I makes it all worth it! The beauty of parenting.

To think as I sit here on the eve of my son’s third birthday what life would be like without him or his sister is just unimaginable! They have made such an impact on our lives.

Typically over the years we have kept birthday parties for our children quite low-key. A small family celebration involving cake, good cheer, a dinner at the little one’s favourite restaurant and presents. Nothing over the top! We like simplicity.

This year will be no different.

For this July’s upcoming milestone – my son opted to plan on purchasing 2 cheese puffs from M&M. I don’t need to get any PUFFIER. For his birthday to follow in December – leaning towards a individual mini cheesecake with 11 candle *POOF*

My birthday is 2 days after my husbands — so often over shadowed. I turned 30 this year and had the biggest party I’ve had in years, we went out to dinner with my parents, his mom, and my BIL/SIL and their family. Normally I just get my choice of restaurants and order in.
