This past Monday, my son and I dropped my daughter off at school and headed straight out to the mall to tackle a little Christmas shopping.
Shopping is generally something that I don’t enjoy. I just don’t do well in large crowds. It isn’t my thing. However, I find if I head out to the mall, set to arrive just as the doors open for the day… my experience is always so much better. Especially around the holidays. The holiday music is always playing. The mall is generally quiet in the early morning hours, and well… those shoppers who have arrived at the mall for opening are all sporting their best smiles with their morning java in hand. Perfect for a shopper like me who loves to get into the mall and out – lickity split.
Prior to popping out to the mall, I prepare my shopping lists. I break my lists down by stores I want to visit, and what product(s) I intend to purchase from each store.
My husband is big on gaming and my children love to watch movies. My 4-year old is also starting to take interest in music. She’s just like her Momma. Quite often you can find her singing in the backseat of my SUV when we are on the road.
For this reason, I find one store I hit up each year while holiday shopping is HMV Canada. It’s a store that carries a little something for the liking of anyone. Whether it be DVDs, music, games, or accessories. They have it all under one roof.
On my recent outing I had a few items I wanted to grab for my children and husband for Christmas from HMV Canada. I won’t name the products, as I know my husband frequents my website from time to time. Bugger. I may have also picked up little holiday treat for myself… The Macklemore and Ryan Lewis – Heist CD.
This album features hit singles, such as: “Can’t Hold Us Down” and “Same Love“.
“The Heist is the second studio album by American rapper Macklemore and producer Ryan Lewis. Independently produced, recorded and released by the duo, the album reached number 1 on iTunes within hours of being released on October 9, 2012 with no mainstream promotion or support.
The album sold 78,000 copies in its first week, and debuted at number 2 on the US Billboard 200 chart, but debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top Rap Albums, while entering the Canadian Albums Chart at number 4. As of November 2013, the album has sold over 1,132,000 copies in the United States and has received generally positive reviews from critics.” – Wikipedia
The layout of HMV makes shopping a breeze. I found The Heist in the “Rap” section sub-categorized under the letter “M”.
This album has been out for quite sometime. It was released in 2012. However, I wasn’t always a fan of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. When I was first introduce to them I found their music to be annoying. It took quite sometime for it to grow on me, and now here I am an owner of their latest album. How times can change.
I don’t normally purchase myself small treats when out at the mall, so this CD counted as a little retail therapy for me. I am saving the rest of my list for my husband to tackle!
HMV Canada makes creating a holiday wish list easy. Using their online application, you can create a list and share it with your family and friends. These lists can be updated at anytime, if need be. Not to mention users of the app will be entered to win a $500 HMV gift card for creating the ultimate wishlist. Talk about incentive.
After checking out at HMV, my son and I ventured into the mall to hit up several other retail stores. Cameron stopped dead in his tracks when he caught a glimpse of the jolly ol’ man himself waving at him from Santa’s workshop.
I don’t recall how many minutes went by, but he stood there with an expression of awe for quite some time. Had the line-up to see Santa have been shorter we totally would have been all aboard the Santa train and on our merry way for a visit. Good thing – we had snuck that visit in, in the weeks prior!
This moment made that trip to the mall so worthwhile that day!
