It’s New Year’s Day and I am feeling quite lazy. For no real reason either. It is not like I stayed up late last night to ring in the New Year. I was in bed before the clock struck midnight. I’m rebellious, I know.

On New Year’s Day, my family loves to enjoy a substantial meal. One with a lot of flavour. One that fills the belly. A turkey or roast beef would be wonderful for a day like today. A great way to start off a new year and celebrate new beginnings. However, I’m just too lazy to spend that much time in the kitchen. That’s where VH Sauce comes in. VH Sauce is sold in a variety of flavours. Their sauces and recipes make for many yummy meals packed full of flavour. Not only that, but meals that are healthy too. Who doesn’t have the goal of eating a wee bit cleaner in the New Year? I think most people do!

Tonight we made Korean Barbecue Pork & Apple Burgers. I had my qualms as I was grilling the burgers. Those qualms were directed towards my George Foreman Grill. Sadly being in a new build we don’t have outdoor access to our barbecue as of yet. We have to wait to be graded. All in all – dinner turned out great. The burgers took a little longer to cook then I would have liked. It was worth the wait though. The meal was delicious.

Korean Barbecue Pork & Apple Burgers
Ingredients
1 1/2 lb (675 g) ground pork
1/2 cup (125 mL) grated apple, plus 12 thin slices for garnishing
1/2 cup (125 mL) plain bread crumbs
1 bottle (355 mL) VH® Korean BBQ Sauce
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 tbsp (15 mL) VH® Soya Sauce
4 hamburger buns
PAM® Grilling Spray

Directions
1. Mix together pork, grated apple, bread crumbs, 1/4 cup (60 mL) of the VH® Korean BBQ Sauce, egg and VH® Soya Sauce until well combined. Form into 6 equal patties and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

2. Spray grill with PAM® Grilling Spray and heat to medium. Place burgers on grill, close lid and cook for 2 minutes, rotate burgers 90°, cover and cook for 2 more minutes. Flip burgers and begin basting with 1/2 cup (125 mL) sauce. Cover and cook for 2 minutes, rotate burgers, cover and cook for 2 more minutes.

3. Move burgers to indirect heat (lower flame) and baste well with remaining sauce. Continue to cook and baste until burgers are cooked through, about 7 minutes.
4. Garnish burgers with sliced apples and VH® Sweet & Sour Mayo (see below).

Tip: To make VH® Sweet & Sour Mayo stir together 1/4 cup VH®Sweet & Sour Cooking Sauce with 1/4 cup mayonnaise.
