Sesame Street has been a household name since 1969. As a child, I never really anticipated that Sesame Street would be a growing phenomenon that continued well into my years of motherhood. Sesame Street was once a show that I would watch in the wee morning hours, after school and on the weekends. It’s now continuing an era whilst entertaining my children.
My favorite Sesame Street muppet has always been Elmo. With Abby Cadabby being a close second. The red furry muppet made his first appearance on Sesame Street in 1972 as Baby Monster. Over the years, the furry red monster’s personality evolved and Elmo’s exuberant personality and energy began to show through in 1985. Avid Sesame Street followers can all attest to how much energy this little red ball of fur possesses! I wish I possessed that much energy on the best of days.
While Elmo can be silly (let’s face it… what 3-and-a-half year old, isn’t?!), he’s a huge role model for young children. He loves to lend a hand. He loves to discover and learn. He’s insightful, courteous and always driven by positivity. It’s no wonder children look up to him. Heck, I sure know I did as a child. Elmo has stolen the key to my heart and I know he has done the same to many others too over the years. He’s a total sweetheart.
I’ll never forget the day that Tickle Me Elmo was released. It was 1996. I would have done anything to have gotten my hands on one. I begged and pleaded with my parents. Bear in mind I was in grade 7. When they said “no”… I took to my little brother; trying to convince him that he needed one. Alas, my pleading never worked and I took my admiration to the store shelves. To this day I still would have done anything for a Tickle Me Elmo. Even the new Let’s Rock Elmo would have sufficed. I have a weakness for that red ball of fluff.
On Friday, Christmas came early for my little munchkins. My inner child was giddy and satisfied when we received the PTPA award winning, Playskool Sesame Street LOL Elmo
The LOL Elmo is hysterical and guaranteed to put a smile on anyone’s face. The LOL Elmo has proven how much he’s advanced over the years since his Tickle Me Elmo days. There are many ways to make Elmo laugh: tickle his tummy, tickle his feet, squeeze Dorthy’s fishbowl or make a silly sound. There’s nothing LOL Elmo loves more than rolling around on the floor while the gigglefest ensues. He laughs, wiggles and rolls more and more with each tickle or squeak of Dorthy’s fishbowl. The kids and I simply adore him.
When we first received our LOL Elmo, my 1 year old was just a tad confused. Each time that Elmo laughed, my son thought the frantic movements of Elmo’s mouth meant that he was hungry. So here we are enjoying playing with our brand new LOL Elmo while my son spoons cereal into Elmo’s mouth. I guess Elmo’s giggles produced quite the hunger. My son sure thought so. I really wish I had the video camera out to capture this moment.
You know one thing that really appealed to me about LOL Elmo, the packaging was easy to tear open and Elmo came with batteries included. Nothing is worse than buying your child a battery operated toy only to find it doesn’t have batteries while your child is there throwing a hissy fit in front of you, wanting to play with said toy immediately. You don’t have that worry with the LOL Elmo. Playskool
got it right!!
