The Craptastic Wedding Present

*Sighs* I think my post says it all. This upcoming weekend my cousin is getting married, so for weeks now I have been having a hard time deciding what to get them as a gift. Being that we are not all that close I wasn’t really feeling the inclination to give her and her beau a monetary gift. So anyway yesterday at work it dawned on me that I remember my Aunt providing me with her gift registery information prior to her bridal shower in June. So anyway I checked it out and there were the following items left….

  • An iron for $119.00;
  • 20 Pack Cherry Boxed (they required 4 and had only received 2) for $19.99 each — this one was listed under the Laundry category as organizers; and lastly,
  • 2 cook books (1 for appetizers and 1 for salads) $11.99 each.

So I figured okay… I received an iron as a wedding present, and well do I use it?! Ummm no! I think it has only been used once since our wedding day a year and a half ago… So I crossed that one off the list. I would hate to know my money was spent on something that was never used. So I figured I would do the obvious… I would finish off the order for the 20 Pack Cherry Boxed — whatever the heck that was! Oh, and also get them both cook books. So anyway… I make my merry way off to Home Outfitters after work yesterday. I found the cook books with no problem at all. However, I must have gone through the laundry/organization section of the store like 20 times and I could not locate this 20 Pack Cherry Boxed for the life of me. I was looking for something that would be like a storage laundry unit with 20 different sections… Apparently I was WAY off base. So I asked a service rep for help. After 15 minutes of her looking, she came back to me with a box of cherry wood friggin’ hangers!!!! I couldn’t believe it. I refused to by 2 boxes of hangers at $19.99 each… so I only bought one. But honestly though… Now  I have to admit I feel like a total knob giving a bride and groom… 2 cook books and a box of hangers as a wedding present. Bah! Now I have to figure out something else that I can pick up and throw in with the gift to not make it looks so bad. Haha. But seriously hangers?! Why would someone want that as a wedding present… I just don’t get it….

Okay my vent is over… LOL.

Ah – Getting My Hopes Up!

Bah… I am in a predicament. For the past few cycles I have gone on and on about how I am not going to dwell about symptoms that I experience during the 2WW, etc. But this morning after I input my temp on Fertility Friend, I decided to scroll down and I am greeted with this little message:

Implantation Signs:
Possible implantation spotting on Day 25. Warning: This spotting may be unrelated to implantation. It is just an additional clue.

How the heck is that supposed to help me not get my hopes up?! Ahhh. My period is due either tomorrow or Sunday. My cycle typically ranges between 27 to 28 days in length. I started experiencing cramps on Monday, but more like pelvic cramps, abdominal tightness, etc. Last night when I was heading to bed, I went to the washroom first and when I wiped I was greeted with bright red spotting. Sorry for the TMI! I barely got any sleep last night… It seriously felt like I saw every 15 minutes go by. This morning when I got up and went to the bathroom I wiped and the spotting was very very light yellow/brown color and now it is gone. I had what I thought were AF cramps initially this morning, but now they are non-exsistent. Bah!!!!!

I really don’t want to get my hopes up, but now I just can’t shake all this from my mind. :-S

The Past Weekend

I know… I know… With how much I have been putting it off you all probably were beginning to think that I was not going to post about my past weekend of awesomeness… yes I said awesomeness! LMAO. I don’t think I have had so much fun in one weekend in such a LOONNGGGG time. Seriously!!!

On Friday night, JMK and I went out to the pub with a few so-called friends. James and I enjoyed a few drinks, and dinner at the pub — but decided to call it a night around 10PM and head home. Trust me you can only tolerate so much of said ‘friends’… if you would even call them that. When we got home we poured ourselves few pints (ok… more than a few pints), plugged in the iPod and played some Nintendo Wii. I think we finally ended up going up to bed around 2:30AM.. Not that that is late to us… I mean we usually stay up fairly late on Friday and Saturday nights.

On Saturday, the weather was pretty offish… Rain was threatening. It was just icky outside! Damn Hurricane Ike! I had to run some errands in the morning, and I bought myself a pink umbrella. Yes, I am aware I mentioned this in a previous post, but hey… I have to gloat about it because I have wanted a pink umbrella for what feels like ever. And you know what is sad?? There was a point in time where I absolutely HATED the colour pink. LMAO. After I finished my errands… JMK surprised me at home with a few movies rentals, candies, popcorn, etc. So we spent the afternoon watching movies, snuggling and munching on candies. Also because it was sooo dreary outside, we were able to turn on our theatre lights in the family room… and it gave it that much more of a homey-theatre feel. It was awesome! Then for dinner I ended up making a family favorite meal — Beer & Beef Stew… which is always a pleaser around our house.

By Saturday night I have to admit I started feeling a bit nervous. On Sunday it was scheduled that my friend Nat was going to do a trash the dress shoot, and I was going to be the portfolio model — and then afterwards we were planning to go out for some beers and wings. We had planned this like back in July, so her and I were both REALLY excited that the day was almost here. On Saturday night (the night before the shoot), I checked The Weather Network, and they had issued heavy rainfall warnings for the GTA and the surrounding areas. There was supposed to be a 90% that Sunday would end up bringing rain ALL friggin’ day. I think I nearly died when I saw this report, but I kept my fingers crossed that the weather would turn around.

On Sunday, the first thing I did when I woke up was rain to the bedroom and looked outside. To my surprise the rain had subsided, the clouds were breaking up and there were sporatic breaks of sun. Awesome!!! All day on Sunday though it did occasionally look like rain was threatening, but thankfully it held off! I drove up to Lindsay where I met Nat at her house. She has a very beautiful, older home! It actual makes me want to move further north one day, get out of the dreaded city, and buy into and older home. It was gorgeous. We started shooting around shortly after 3PM. We ran into a brief complication when tying up my dress… For the most part it tyed up… but there was one teensy-weensy little area that couldn’t be pulled any tighter, so a tad of skin showed through the corset… It wasn’t all that noticeable. Thank god!! I have to say I am soooo proud of myself for being able to fit into my wedding dress still, a year and a half after my wedding. It was a great feeling. The first location we went to take some pictures at was the Old Mill in Lindsay. We took some pictures against the old brick walls, and there was also a bit of a stream too. It was a very rustic, peaceful setting. Initially, I have to admit I felt a little strange to be waltzing around in my wedding dress. Haha. So I was feeling a little out of my element at first… But after taking a few shots, I began to feel more confident with the shoot and totally began having so much fun… And I mean A LOT of fun! After we finished shooting at the Old Mill we then head off to an abandoned house/barn in Reaboro. There were no trespassing signs all over the property, but that didn’t stop Natalie and I. As we started to walk through the long grass up closer to the barn… we heard a bit of clanking… It sort of freaked us out, but Natalie hollered out that we were just taking a few pictures and we would be on our way to reassure who ever may have been there, if anyone. We started taking pics up closer towards the barn when all of sudden we heard a light clank and then a loud bang. Seriously it sounded like someone was banging together a meat cleaver… I’m not kidding!!! I screamed, and we both began hightailing it off the property and back to the car. I felt so much adrenaline, it was insane!! I never thought I could run so fast in my wedding dress, either. Haha. I have to admit though… I felt very sexy taking pictures next to this abandoned barn… It might have been resulting from the fear. LOL. Along the way to our next location, we made several stops to take some roadside shots and we also found this farmers field with hay rolls, and stopped to take some pictures there. The wind a top the hill with the hay rolls was amazing. The wind was strong enough that it was actually able to carry my train. The clouds were phenomenal too. I am sure Natalie got some gorgeous shots! Our final stop was at Sturgeon Lake heading towards Bobcaygeon where we took some fun shots by the water and in the water. Yes, I got in the water in my wedding dress! Hehe. It was so refreshing at Sturgeon Lake, and I am sure Natalie caught some awesome water shots. We both ended up getting completely soaked. And me being the idiot that I can be forgot to bring a change of underwear. LOL. So I ended up having to go commando after the shoot. LMAO. My car also totally now smells lake-ish… Probably because us girlies were in it in sopping wet clothes. Haha. But it was totally worth it. If you were to ask me what my fav part of the whole day was… I don’t think I could pinpoint just one thing. The whole day was sooo much fun, and I am glad that I got to spend it with a good friend. 🙂 After the shoot we were planning to go out for beer and wings, but we decided to get some fast food instead and go out for beer and wings another night. All in all as you can probably gather by how much I am babbling… I had an awesome Sunday. I will be sure to post some pics soon!!!

I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend, and I know I may not say it enough but I am so grateful to have such amazing family and friends. 🙂

La, La, La…

As you can tell by the title of this post… I had absolutely no call what to title it. Haha. What can I say… I am not feeling all that much creative today. I know in my posts on Monday that I mentioned that I would write an entry yesterday about my weekend, and how awesome it was… But as you can tell that never happened. The past few days have been quite hectic… Not at work, but just in general. I am throwing a birthday party for my hubby on Friday night, and I didn’t think it would take as much planning as it is. There are approximately 16 to 20 people coming, and I have had to do a lot of coordinating with the restaurant to ensure everything is perfect. I have say though that I am slightly annoyed because I asked everyone to let me know by last Friday if they could come, so I could make reservations… And I did make reservations on Friday… However now I have people scowring to me asking if it is okay that they still come, which what am I going to say ‘uh no… too late’…. So I’ve been having to work with the restaurant to include the late-rsvpers. Thankfully the restaurant is accomodating. I am really excited about this party though. I tried planning a similar party for JMK’s birthday last year, and last minute most people cancelled because they had other plans… So I am so happy that everything is coming together this time around. At times I seriously feel like I am more excited for my hubby’s birthday, than he is. Haha. I will be sure to take my camera to the party, and will post some pics next week. 🙂 Other than planning, JMK’s’ birthday I have been busy with family, etc. My Dad is currently going through a separation, so I have been all ears for him and my Grandma, etc. Not that I mind at all… That is what family is for! 🙂

Tonight though… I should be able to post all about this past weekend. No promises, though. LOL.

Have a great day!

So Confused

Bah… Kay so as many of you know now… My hubby and I are currently TTC. And… I know in previous posts from previous months I have talked about how I am not going to dwell, and let things get to me… However, I have some stuff I need to get off my chest and I would rather not speak to my hubby about it because his birthday is only days a way… So given that his birthday is just mere days away I don’t want to get his hopes up or anything.

Currently, I am 8 days past ovulation (DPO) and am on cycle day (CD) 24. On CD 22, I had a dip in my temperature, and ever since I have started notice a thermal shift on my chart. Yesterday on CD 23 I started experiencing slight pelvic cramps (off and on) and abdominal tightness… It almost felt like I was being poked at times. Today (CD 24), I noticed that I had to make more frequent visits to the washroom, and that the pelvic cramps were accompanied by leg cramps. None of what I have mentioned so far is what is getting to me (or more so confusing me)… But what is confusing me is that when I went to visit the washroom this afternoon and I wiped… I noticed creamy CM with a bit of egg white CM. I thought EWCM was only common when you were ovulating?! I mean it is one of the most fertile CMs. So why would I be seeing EWCM on 8 DPO… Is that a sign of implantation?! I am so confused.

In no way am I getting my hopes up… I mean I have been TTC for 6 months now… I am not going to dwell on it. I have to say I really hope my BFP finds me soon!!! I wanna be a MOMMY!!!!!!! 🙂

Blah!

So I have to say my case of the Monday blahs failed to subside after my post this morning. I thought you know that as the day went on today that it wouldn’t be so bad.. But uh no. I didn’t have a bad day, but I also didn’t have a very productive day either. I have been in a perfectly fine mood today, but just in general felt so blah. The work day did drag on a little, but perhaps that is as a result of my dislike for my job… who knows! All I know is that as soon as I got home from work tonight I very quickly put on my jammies, and made some Hamburger Soup for dinner. Hamburger Soup is one of my fav, fav, fav comfort foods, especially on a cold day! It has a bit of spice, and a ton of kick to it. Yum, yum! Hehe.

I know I promised in my post earlier this morning that I would post more about my weekend tonight, but to be totally honest I will have to post the details tomorrow… My hubby came home from work tonight feeling like garbage. I think he is coming down with a nasty cold. And, while he thinks he is being a man, and he is all fine and dandy…. He in reality is acting like a big baby, and I have been having to take care of him. LMAO. How awesome of a wife, am I?! :p

Have a great night, and I will be sure to post more about my weekend tomorrow!! Hehe. I have lots to share because it was such an awesome weekend. 🙂

SO Cold

This morning was one of those mornings where I just did not want to get out of the bed when the alarm went off. I woke up cocooned in my comforter, and I was soooo cozy. My bedroom had a very brisk chill to it… enough chill to make me not want to budge. So needless to say getting the nerve to crawl out of bed this morning and into the shower to get ready for the day was totally NOT easy! Haha. Last night I went to bed a little early than normal, and I had a really good nights sleep — but regardless of that I still feel quite tired. That may have something to do with the weather, though.

I’m seriously not looking forward into going into work today… I guess you could say I have a case of the Monday blahs. I really hope that today doesn’t drag on because at the rate the day has started off, I just cannot wait to come home put on some comfies, and curl up on the couch with a book or watch a movie. Tonight I am also planning to make one of my favorite comfort meals — Hamburger Soup. Yum, yum! Hehe.

I have to say though that regardless of how blah I feel today that I did have an amazing weekend spent with my hubby and also a close friend… I will post more about my weekend later today when I have more time to type. 🙂 And this upcoming weekend, I get to look forward to my hubby’s birthday celebration. I have arranged a birthday party at one of his favorite bars in the Peel region on Friday night… I figured rather than asking all his friends to travel up to see JMK in Durham that I would bring JMK to all his friends to party it up! It should be fun! The party was meant to be a surprise, but the surprise ended up leaking and JMK put everything together — And figured out my master plan. Haha. Oh well… I had so much fun planning this party for him, and night of the party will be awesome! 🙂

Anyway… I guess I should head out for work… I am supposed to be in earlier today. Oh joy… *rolls eyes*

No Rain Dance

“Rain, rain.. Go away! Come again another day!”

So this weekend it appears that the forecast has very quickly changed to indicate that we are to expect a weekend full of rain. :p Seriously, I think others can relate to me when I say this… But I am so friggin’ sick of the rain! LMAO. If I could go on strike from the rain… I would do just that!

This morning we did some running around… And I can now proudly say I am the owner of a hot pink umbrella. Woo hoo! I have always wanted a hot pink umbrella — and now I own one! But anyway… here I am getting sidetracked. LOL.

The hubs surprised me this afternoon when he got home from picking up some groceries for dinner with chocolate, candies, popcorn and the movie Baby Mama. He can be such a sweetheart sometimes… :p So this afternoon/evening, the hubs and I opted to simply stay in and watch movies… and have a nice home-cooked comfort meal! What could be better! For dinner I am planning to make one of my families favorite all-time recipes — Beer and Beef Stew. It is delicious! I will be sure to post the recipe later. 🙂

Tomorrow… I am totally looking forward to. I am going to be hanging out with my friend Natalie, and also having fun Trashing my Dress. Woot! I really hope the heavy rain holds off tomorrow. A little sprinkle and cloudiness is fine by me, but the heavy rain can just stay FAR, FAR away! After shooting the TTD, we plan to go out for some beer and wings… and some good ol’ girly talk!

How else could one want to spend their weekend?! Hehe. 🙂

Rememberance

As many of you know today marks the 7th anniversary since the attacks that took place on September 11, 2001 when hijackers took over 4 commercial airlines; 2 of which were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre.

I still remember September 11, 2001 so vividly. When I found out the news that planes had flown into the twin towers, I was on my way from my first period Grade 12 class to my second period class. I had friends flocking to me in the halls in a panic asking if I had heard the news. Of course, I was oblivious I had no idea what was going on. After my friends explained the situation, I think my heart just sank. I had no idea what to think or how to feel. Was it an accident? Was it war? There were so many questions I wanted answered. Thankfully our school provided permission to the teachers to bring televisions into our classrooms so that we could watch the aftermath and new story unfold on CNN. The teachers also insisted on having a discussion with all of us regarding the matter. It felt great to know that the school was being so supportive.

No matter how many years pass, I will always step back and have a moment of silence on September 11 and remember all those who lost their lives. My heart breaks for all their families and friends. I have tuned into a few memorials and tributes today, but I find that as I listen to the names being read off and hearing everyones recollection of the day that my eyes well up with tears.

It has been 7 years and I am still trying to come to terms with this occurence. My condolences and thoughts are extended to the families of those who lost a loved one in this tragedy.

Beautified

Today is the first day in a long time that I feel absolutely beautiful. These days come very far and between… But I mean over the last little while I have to admit I have been very hard on myself about my ‘before summer weight gain’. I have been busting my ass all summer to get back in shape, and feel great again – and it is finally paying off. In the last month I have dropped nearly 10 pounds — 4 of which I dropped in the last week when I picked up my new obsession of playing Wii Sports. Who would have thought that playing Wii Sports could attribute and lead to weight loss. I actually found some statistics on a site called Wii Healthy this past week that compares calories burned playing the actual sport versuses the Wii Sport. I have included some of the statistics below based on the research that has been conducted.

Tennis:
The real sport: 8.1 calories per minute
Wii Sports: 5.3 calories per minute
Boxing:
The real sport: 10.2 calories per minute
Wii Sports: 7.2 calories per minute
Golf:
The real sport: 3.9 calories per minute
Wii Sports: 3.1 calories per minute
Bowling:
The real sport: 7.2 calories per minute
Wii Sports: 3.5 calories per minute
Baseball:
The real sport: 7.3 calories per minute
Wii Sports: 4.5 calories per minute

Who seriously would have thought that by playing Wii Sports out of all things that you could lose weight?! Because I certainly didn’t, and now I have to say I am a believer!

So any way back to my original post… After getting ready this morning, and doing my weigh in — and just feeling so utterly good about myself and my achievements lately… I decided it was time to try on my wedding dress again. The last time I wore my wedding dress was almost over a year and a half ago. I seriously was so worried that it wasn’t going to fit me. So I asked my hubby if he would be cool with coming into the spare room with me and lacing/tying up the back of my dress for me, and he happily agreed. As I stood there as he was lacing away I kept asking him ‘do you think it will do up?’, and he would just laugh and tell me to breathe. Haha. Needless to say, my dress fit me perfectly. I actually think it fit me better today, then it did on my wedding day! Who would have thought?! Haha. I felt gorgeous all over again. It was such a great feeling. 🙂

This upcoming weekend my good friend, Nat, is doing a Trash the Dress shoot of me, and I absolutely can’t wait! Hehe.

He ACTUALLY Found Something!

It must be a guy thing, but ever since I have been with JMK I have found that whenever I ask for him to find or get me something — he always will come to me and be all like ‘NK, we must be out or we must have thrown it out because I can’t find it’. So then I will end up having to look for what it is I was asking him to get me myself, and sure enough within minutes I will find it; And, whatever it was that I would have been looking for would have been in the most noticeable place.

Well this morning I got a taste of my own medicine…. For weeks I haven’t been able to find the shower mat for the master bathroom — we have two that are in rotation… So currently we have one in the wash and I couldn’t find the other one for the life of me. The hubby was sick of having to step out of the shower on to a cold floor, so he went on the hunt for the other missing shower mat this morning…. And he ACTUALLY found it! It was barried away behind all our towels in the linen closet. I have been looking for this mat for weeks, and do you think I could find it?! NO! But he did! I couldn’t believe it. Haha.

Yummy Goodness!

On Saturday while we were at my Mother-in-law’s she had me try this tart that she had made, and was going to take to dinner that she was attending that night. When I initially heard what the ingredients were I wasn’t so keen on the whole idea of trying the tart — but I bit the bullet and tried it, and boy oh boy am I glad that I did. It was delicious! Anyway, I got the recipe from her so I figured I would share it. I plan to buy all the ingredients on Friday night when I do my weekly grocery shopping, and make it at some point over the weekend.

Raspberry White Chocolate Mascarpone Tart

Ingredients:
  • 3 sheet phyllo, pastry
  • 3 tbsp butter, melted
  • 3 oz white chocolate, melted
  • 3 cups raspberries
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1/4 cup light cream
  • 4 tsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
Directions:
  1. Cut each sheet of phyllo pastry in half lengthwise to make two 17- x 6-inch sheets. Lay 1 half on work surface, keeping remaining phyllo covered with damp towel to prevent drying out. Brush sheet with butter; top with another sheet so edges are not perfectly aligned and all 8 corners are visible. Repeat with remaining phyllo and butter.
  2. Gently fit into 14- x 4-inch tart pan with removable bottom. Turn edges under and ruffle, allowing some to hang over edge. Line with foil; fill with pie weights or dried beans. Bake in 375°F oven for 10 minutes; lift out foil with weights. Prick bottom of shell all over. Bake until golden, about 5 minutes longer. Let cool completely on rack. Remove from pan and place on serving plate.
  3. Spread about two-thirds of the white chocolate over crust. (Make-ahead: Set aside for up to 2 hours. Remelt reserved white chocolate if necessary.) Arrange 1 cup of the raspberries over chocolate. Beat together mascarpone, cream, sugar and vanilla; spread over raspberries. Arrange remaining raspberries over filling. Drizzle with remaining chocolate.

Enjoy!

Defeat

For Christmas, JMK’s Dad bought us a Nintendo Wii; along side with a handful of games. For the longest time I have been refusing to even touch the Wii because I know how I am, and that if I were to play the Wii that I would very quickly thereafter become addicted. I held out on the urge to play for 8 months. Can you believe it…. 8 WHOLE months?! It has been brutal watching JMK and our friends play, as I sit there insisting that I would never touch it. Haha. What can I say — I guess the game beat me,literally! Because tonight… I GAVE IN!!!! I can’t believe I am even admitting this because I know my husband will never let me live it down once he hears about my little Wii Tennis escapade tonight.

See I was upstairs using my Carmen Electra Fit to Strip DVD series, and I just wasn’t feeling it… I mean I wanted to be active, but do something fun. Then I remembered a conversation I was having with my good friend this afternoon. She had mentioned how much fun some of the Wii Sports were — Tennis being one of them. So after about 30 minutes of Upper-Lower Mid Fix with the Fit to Strip DVD… I made my merry little way downstairs… Figured out how the heck to turn the Wii on… Had to change the battery in the remote (getting the cover off the Wii remote was not easy)… Loaded the game… And away I went playing Wii Tennis. I must have been playing for atleast an hour and a half — and oh my god was that hour and a half ever FUN!!! I had the hardest time pulling myself away. Sure I was jumping and swinging around my family room — probably looking like a total knob, but I broke a really good sweat…. and did I mention I had a lot of fun!

So yea… I am NK and I am officially a Nintendo Wii addict! Bah!

Love My Weekends

The weather this weekend has been absolutely amazing! I don’t think we have had a weekend of weather this nice in quite some time. My hubby and I have spent the weekend trying to make the most of it. On Saturday we went over to my Mother-in-law’s for a swim and to lounge around by the pool, and yesterday we went to the Metro Toronto Zoo. The weather couldn’t have been any more perfect! On Saturday we had originally planned to go to the drive-in in Lindsay to see a few movies — we have been wanting to go to the drive-in for quite some time now, but we ended up getting sidetracked. After the swimming at my Mother-in-law’s we had to pop over to my Father-in-law’s and drop off the sunglasses that he had forgotten at our house a few weeks ago. What was supposed to be a quick stop over ended up turning into a dinner, drinks on the deck and a few hour visit. Not that I am complaining. Hehe.

All in all this is a total pointless post. We are not sure what we are going to do today — we might head back over to my Mother-in-laws for another swim… but we shall see. I hope everyone enjoys the final day of the long weekend!! 🙂
